Businesses can now submit chemical notifications using the KemiDigi system. The new system, which pools together all information on chemicals, was deployed at the beginning of February.

“The deployment went well, and the development of the system continues during the spring. In the future, businesses will be able to take care of most of their chemical reporting and notification obligations using the KemiDigi system”, explains Project Manager Minna Valtavaara.

Among the documents relating to dangerous chemicals that businesses can now submit to the authorities using the KemiDigi system are chemical notifications. Chemical notifications are required for all chemicals that are to be placed on the market in Finland and that are classified as dangerous. The information held in the KemiDigi system is accessible to both the authorities and the users of the chemicals.

The submission of chemical notifications is one of the first functions of the new system. By the end of April, businesses will also be able to use the KemiDigi system to draw up lists of chemicals.

A user-friendly way to take care of reporting obligations

KemiDigi is a high-priority project for the Government, and its aim is to provide businesses with a user-friendly way to take care of their chemical reporting obligations online.

“The system is being developed in close cooperation with businesses and various public bodies in order to make it as efficient as possible”, Valtavaara says.

At the heart of the KemiDigi system are a database of dangerous chemicals on the market in Finland, a database of substances and businesses’ lists of the chemicals they use, which can be drawn up on the basis of the aforementioned information.

Training for businesses

Tukes has already trained businesses to submit chemical notifications and to use the KemiDigi system, and more training events will be held during the spring.

A training event scheduled for 14 February 2019 will be streamed live at http://www.mediaserver.fi/live/tukes. The event will also be recorded.

Instructions for using the service can also be found at Tukes's website.
