Taking out of service

A decommissioned electrical installation must not cause a hazard.

An electrical installation can be considered as having been taken out of service after it has been separated from the electricity distribution network that supplies it reliably and in such a manner that voltage cannot be connected to it by regular means of operation. Tukes recommends that the electrical installation or a part thereof to be taken out of service is disassembled and removed completely.

Notify the electricity distribution network operator about taking the installation or a part thereof out of service, and notify Tukes about large installations included in Tukes’s register. You can send a freeform notification by email to the address kirjaamo (at) tukes.fi.

If the activities in a building stop, such as when production is shut down, the building may not be necessarily disconnected completely from the electricity distribution network. Electricity may still be needed for purposes such as heating and lighting. If the electrical installation required an operation manager, this obligation will not end unless the electrical installation is completely separated from the electricity distribution network that supplies it.

The cables of disassembled installations must be removed from the distribution board that supplies them

In order to prevent electrical accidents and maintain the general clarity of electrical installations, the cables of disassembled installations must always be removed from the distribution board that supplies them in connection with the disassembly. As far as possible, cables that are no longer used should be removed completely. If the removal is not reasonably possibly due to reasons such as difficult routing, the cables must be encapsulated and marked clearly at both ends. After the disassembly, the markings on the distribution boards and the electrical drawings must be updated to correspond to the changes in the installation.
