Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment – WEEE

Electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) must be marked with a separate collection label, and producer responsibility applies to them. The purpose of WEEE regulation is to reduce the amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and promote the reuse, recycling and recovery of WEEE.

Markings

EEE must have

  • a separate collection label
  • marking that indicates that the equipment was put on the market after 13 May 2005.

A solid black bar underneath the separate collection label is a marking in conformity with standard EN 50419 that meets the above requirements.  Labels may be affixed to the packaging, operating instructions or warranty certificate due to the small size or operation of the equipment.

Producer responsibility

Producer responsibility obligations apply to electrical equipment. The manufacturer or the company that imports the electrical equipment to Finland is liable for the costs of the waste management of its products when they are discarded. In Finland, matters related to producer responsibility are managed centrally by the Pirkanmaa Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.
