Liquid loading systems

The procedure set out in the table is followed when performing in-service verification on loading systems.  The system’s commissioning time and the procedures of demonstrating the conformity of the meter affect the procedure.

A meter compliant with the requirements of the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) can be connected to a measuring system commissioned before 30 October 2006 in accordance with the principles presented below.

Demonstration of the meter’s conformity Measuring system installed Requirements for the measuring system: MID or the old national verification approval (VJ)
VJ.A.XX.YY Before 30 October 2006 national
MID Before 30 October 2006 national
VJ.A.XX.YY After 30 October 2006 MID
MID After 30 October 2006 MID

The national verification approvals (VJ) and initial verifications only applied to the measuring element, i.e. the meter and the display. The requirements of the Measuring Instruments Directive apply to the whole measuring system. The measuring system is the part of the loading system used to

  • perform the measurement
  • produce measurement data used as the basis of invoicing
  • store the results for later use.

The measuring system includes various devices and software. In addition, the system must store the measurement result and the information related to identifying the measurement event related to the sale in question permanently.
