    The Court of Justice of the European Union issued a preliminary ruling on 19 January 2023 concerning the processing, placing on the market and sowing of plant protection product seeds containing thiamethoxam and clothianidin. According to the preliminary ruling, plant protection products containing thiamethoxam or clothianidin cannot be granted a derogation in case of emergency situations in plant protection in the future.

    The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) has granted authorisations by derogation for the plant protection of spring oilseed and sugarbeet. Tukes has granted an authorisation by derogation for the industrial treatment of spring rapeseed and rapeseed with Buteo Start FS 480. No authorisation by derogation has been granted for products containing neonicotinoids for the plant protection of oilseed in the next growing season.
