Accidents
Learning from accidents is important in order to avoid similar accidents in the future. Tukes publishes information on accidents occurred in Finland so that companies, employees and consumers could identify and manage the risks associated with their own operations.
Companies can use the information on accidents for the following purposes, among others
- to assist in risk assessment: What kinds of accidents have occurred?
- in training: Could this happen to us? How is it prevented?
Investigated accidents
Tukes establishes its own accident investigation team if this is required in order to determine the causes (not liability).
In most cases, Tukes establishes an accident investigation team if
- somebody has died or seriously injured in an accident
- the accident has caused significant environmental or property damage
- the event could have escalated into a serious accident.
The aim of the accident investigations carried out by Tukes is to identify the accident causes and use that information to prevent similar accidents in the future. The accident investigation reports are published (in Finnish).
