Regulation on Mutual Recognition

The principle of mutual recognition is based on free movement of goods within the Single Market. However, free movement of goods can be restricted under certain conditions.

The EU Regulation on Mutual Recognition (EU) 2019/515 applies where national requirements are set by law for products, and these requirements are not harmonised throughout the EU. This is the case with regard to the requirements for articles of precious metals.

First and foremost, the regulation guides the procedures of the authorities when they intend to apply the principle of mutual recognition. The authorities must take the requirements laid down in the regulation into account in their own activities, such as in the assessment of goods. For this reason, as an entrepreneur, you may be contacted by Tukes asking whether you want to submit a mutual recognition notification. Submitting a notification is voluntary.
