Swimming and other water sports

Water is always a dangerous element in consumer services. In order to identify the hazards and manage the risks, the service provider must draw up a safety document on all consumer services implemented in water.

Water safety must also be taken into account at public events and in programme services, in which the participants have the opportunity to swim or the element of water is otherwise a part of the service.

Safety instructions on swimming areas have been compiled in the Tukes Guide ‘Uimahallien ja kylpylöiden turvallisuuden edistäminen’ on promoting the safety of swimming pools and spas. The instructions are also useful for service providers of water sports other than swimming.

Safety requirements for consumer services implemented in water have been gathered in this section. In addition to swimming, the safety of sports such as canoeing, shooting of the rapids and diving is also discussed.
