The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) is establishing a new contact point for market surveillance, and it will be headed by Mika Toivonen. The Market Surveillance Liaison Office is a new function. Each EU Member State will establish their own office.

The task of the liaison office is to coordinate the cooperation between market surveillance authorities and the Finnish Customs, to draft the Finnish market surveillance strategy and to represent Finland in all market surveillance related EU cooperation.

Toivonen has worked in the Tukes Electrical Products Unit since 2009, and has experience in working with other market surveillance authorities and customs both in Finland and internationally.

The establishment of a market surveillance liaison office is based on the new EU market surveillance Regulation. Complementary national legislation is being drafted to support the implementation of the Regulation. The Market Surveillance Liaison Office will start operations on 1 January 2020.
